‘Connect’ – really did link business and charity in a meaningful way

‘Connect’s’  first event on Thursday, 25th November – really did link business and charity in a meaningful way

The first Connect Event did exactly what it set out to do, which was to unite business and charity in a meaningful way to the mutual benefit of both. ‘Connect’ held its first business speed networking event on Thursday, 25th November, in aid of the Cork Simon Community, at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Little Island.

A cross section of Cork business representatives attended the event to contribute to the good cause, and importantly, to make new business connections. Well know Cork personality, PJ Coogan, was MC on the night and did a fantastic job of organising the agenda for the event. Following some informal networking, Katie Browne commenced the proceedings with a short talk on the on-going work, challenges and successes of Cork Simon.  This was followed by two 60 second elevator pitches, one by Eamonn Leahy, of Expo Organizers, and the other from marketer Denis Finnegan.  Finally the serious business of the night got underway with 45 minutes of speed networking. Thanks to PJ, everyone moved smoothly around the tables for their consecutive 3 minute meetings (although some were hard to move on!).

Organisers behind ‘Connect’ are Gwenda Hughes of Dragon Marketing, Margot Mulcahy, MD at MDMpr; Allan Cuthbert, MD at Financial Wellbeing; Odette Norman of Stormlight; and professional photographer, Diane Cusack. ‘Connect’ works both online and offline and you can join the group on LinkedIn (Connect, Linking Business & Charity), Facebook (Connect Cork) and follow us on Twitter. The group vision is to hold a number of events annually in support of a variety of charities.  All proceeds raised on the night went directly to Cork Simon, the nominated charity for the first event.

Other representatives from the local business sector in Cork who attended the event included: Cork solicitor, Maurice O’Connor; Kieran Moore of Imokilly Webs ; Damien Farrell, PC Systems ltd.; Personal Life Coaches, Karl Ryan and Mary Corbett ; Noeleen Cronin  of Home Instead ; Michael McCann,  CannDoIT ; Des Donnelly Sales Director at the Cork International Airport Hotel ; Denis Carre, DiCi Productions ; Anne Marie O’Connor of Bru Columbanus; Don Cullinane, Ology ; Dave Moran of Dmos; Brandy Ahern of Savie Card ; Adrian O’Connell and well know online blogger,Paul O’Mahony of Marketing Write Now
